Some knitting getting done...

I have managed to get some more knitting done, in between packing boxes. I'll be mostly moved in by Saturday. Thank goodness, because I can't wait to get back to a regular knitting schedule. I finally have a close up picture of the Harry Potter wreath and I have also included some pictures of the shawl I made for my holiday party. I'll have to tell you which Berrocco and Online yarns I used at a later date, because the labels from the yarn are packed. I also had to include a picture of me and my hunky date.
I am working on a separate blog for my kitties. It will be TiraMisuBlue when it is all said and done.

Merry Harry!

Tonight was finally the big night of the Festival of Wreaths. I took lot's of pictures, but didn't get a really good close up of my wreath other than one with myself. However, one of my girlfriend's ended up winning the wreath so I will try and get another picture of it. I had taken pictures of it with my camera, but I have since misplaced it. The auction was a success and I already have next year's wreath planned.

Harry Potter Part 2

I have managed to get my Gryffindor and Hufflepuff sweaters done, but have to scramble to get the rest completed this week. I have not had a lot of knitting time because I have been busy packing for my move.

The deadline to get the wreath done is next Saturday so I'd better book it!

Cats and Knitting

I'm getting excited. I'm getting closer to getting my kitties. For those of you who don't know, I have a friend who has several cats that she inherited from a friend that passed away from cancer. I was going to take one of the kitties off her hands when I move into a new apartment. Well, it turned out she was pregnant. The babies were born four weeks ago and I have decided to take two of the babies. This past Thursday, I had the pleasure of picking out which kittens I want. The black and white little girl will be Tira and the tabby little boy will be Misu.

I will be bringing them home in time for Christmas. I will be moving into my apartment around December 22nd. I can't wait!

I just finished my Hufflepuff sweater and scarf and will post them shortly.

All quiet on the knitting front...

Well, not quite. I have managed to get a couple of little projects done. I was able to work up the sweater and scarf for Gryffindor. Next up is Hufflepuff.

More Wrestling Hijinks

Last weekend, Southern Championship Wrestling, my favorite wrestling promotion, celebrated it's 9th Anniversary. It was a fun night and I got to squeak the National Anthem. Notice I said squeak. It's always a hard one for me to do. I played a trick on my buddy Chris Carson, the owner of the federation and one of my sock recipients. He has a gimmick he has been doing for years that is called "DTW" - Don't Trust Women. Well, Mr. Carson has gotten to know a few of my knitting friends and we decided it was time for the women to fight back. So I had a bunch of tshirts made that said "DTC" - Don't Trust Carson and I had my knitty friends and a few select wrestlers wear them to the show on Saturday. It was fun seeing Carson's reaction. Needless to say we are still talking LOL
P.S. The wrestler with the hot back side is none other than Slyck Wagner Brown. I have the pleasure of doing transport duty for him everytime he is in town. Real nice guy and hot to boot!

Final SP-9

My SP-9 downstream, Jennie, finally received her gifts so I can post my picture of the fingerless gloves I made her. They were knit out of Sockotta using their free pattern. It was a lot of fun doing this swap on the knittyboard and I look forward to doing another one sometime next year.

Secret Stash

I went to the post office to pick up my mail today and was pleasantly surprised to find a package from my Secret Pal 9 pal. It turns out my pal is Amber Kitty! She sent me some lovely presents. The books Favorite Socks and Folk Shawls (she must have seen my Amazon list.) She also included a stitch and needle gauge, some chocolate (which is almost gone already), a really neat tape measure which is a crocheted cake (I have included a separate picture.) I have decided I'm going to start collecting tape measures because there are so many neat ideas for them. There was also a bag of what I call doo dads that you can use for earrings, etc. I love everything that I have received and appreciate Amber for being a great Secret Pal. I haven't mailed out my last pal package because I'm finishing up a present for mine. I only have about 8 more rows and should get it in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm having a hard time finding time for knitting with my apartment hunting. For those of you who don't know, my husband and I are splitting up so I am looking for new digs. I think I have found a cute apartment with enough closet space for me and all my crafts and will probably move the end of December or middle of January. Once this is settled I hope to start getting caught up on knitting.

Eye Candy

I have been having a difficult time lately and don't seem to be getting my knitting done fast enough, but I did end up going to a fun wrestling match on Saturday for UXW in Orlando. I didn't take a lot of pictures because my camera was not working great but I did manage to take pictures of some hot wrestlers. The two outside gentlemen are the Shane Twins who are national wrestlers and the middle is Bruce Santee, one of the better local wrestler. Hot stuff!

I finally finished another pair of socks. They are Move Your Fanny from Socktopia done in Tofutsies. I will probably be taking a break from socks for a month or so to work on my Harry Potter Wreath and some other miscellaneous projects that I want to get done before Christmas season, including something for my SP9 partner, which I have to get done in the next week or so. I'll post a pic after she receives it.

Yarn P@rn

I almost didn't make it for my Friday posting, but I woke up long enough to post my yarn goodies. I got quite a different collection of yarns. The black and silver colors will go together into a drop stitch shawl to go with an evening gown I bought for the holidays.

Statewide Yarn Shop Frenzy!

Susie and I spent a very busy week visiting yarn shops and lighthouses all over Central Florida. I’m finally getting around to putting together a list and review of the shops we visited. I tried to put them in the order we visited them in.

150 N. Swoope Ave.
Maitland, FL 32751
Phone: 888-324-KNIT
This is my most frequented shop. She has a large selection of yarns and I can always find something. She also offers some great classes.

900 Fox Valley Drive, Suite 106
Longwood, FL 32779
Phone: (407) 767-KNIT or (407) 767-5648
These are truly some of the nicest people I know. I always go away feeling happy. They are very helpful and user friendly. They have a great selection of yarns and the shop is arranged in a very welcoming manner.

1517 South Dale Mabry Highway
Tampa, FL 33629
Phone: (813) 245-KNIT
Lovely shop, laid out well, good lighting and selection of yarn. The clerks seemed very nice and accommodating, it’s just too bad I was so crabby after dealing with the Tampa traffic.

31962 U.S. Highway 19 North
Palm Harbor, FL 34684
Phone: (727) 784-6778
There was a huge selection of yarn and patterns for such a small shop. However, because of the size of the shop it was too claustrophobic for me, plus with my wool allergies I could barely breathe by the time I left the shop. The owner was very nice.

5300 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Unit 7
Phone: (904) 236-3000
This shop has been around a long time. Erma is a very nice lady and you can find some real gems here.

4113 NW 13th St
Gainsville, FL 32606
Phone: (352) 337-9965
[Exit off Interstate 75 at exit 77 onto 39th Ave. go east to 13th Ave then
north 1 block.]
Hands down the favorite of all the shops of both Susie and I. I wanted to bring the girls home with me they were that wonderful. They have a huge selection of yarns and patterns. Gorgeous tote bags if you collect them and some great kits and displays. Lot’s of temptations for both Susie and I. I could truly spend hours there.

10584-6 Old Saint Augustine Road
Jacksonville, FL 32257
Phone: (904) 260-1636
I enjoyed this shop a lot as well. For someone with wool allergies, they had a great selection of alternatives. I bought some sock yarn made out of corn fibers that seems very soft. The shop is laid out well with plenty of room to move. She also had some nice groupings of furniture to sit around and knit and visit. I can see why the girls from the Black Purls Knitting group out of St. Augustine make this their shop of choice.

2546 US Highway 1 South
St. Augustine, FL 32086
Phone: (904) 797-9951
Fran has only been open a short time, but she is definitely going in the right direction. She is a lovely lady who reminds me of my mentor, Marion. This is the place to go if you are looking for knitting machine yarns and patterns. There is a group of machine knitting ladies that come down from Jacksonville to meet and knit. Even though she has a lot of knitting machine items she has plenty of other things, with plans to add more. Definitely worth checking out and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in the future.

600 South Yonge Street
Ormond Beach, FL 32174
Phone: (386) 676-9111
This is my second favorite shop. When I walked inside I truly felt like I was back home in Minnesota. The place had that warm hominess that I miss. People were sitting around laughing, stitching and eating. The shop is for sale and I think it would be great if it would continue to be in business, because there is definitely a place for it in that part of the state.

46 N Brevard Ave (1 block West of A1A @ North First in the Bailiwick Mall)
Cocoa Beach, Fl 32931
Phone: 321-783-4550
I knew I was going to love this place when the owner answered the phone “I’m all strung out, are you?" The shop owner and other people in there were a lot of fun. This was a cute shop and I love the way she incorporated beading and knitting. This is definitely a place I want to go back and check out when I’m not so tired.

The next time I decide to hit some yarn shops, I’m going to plan on doing it on a smaller scale. I’ve come to realize that I don’t have the energy to do major trips like I used to. I really had a fun week but it was way too exhausting!

Tomorrow is Yarn P@RN Friday so I will wait until then to post pictures of my stash from the trip.

Secret Pal 9 Stash

I came home from vacation to a package from my Secret Pal 9 pal. It was loaded with some great goodies! There were two chocolate bars that are already gone and some Vermont Maple Syrup. Included was a cute little book about the history of knitting, two English knitting magazines that I hadn't already purchased! There was also a cool organizer that will be perfect for my circulars and some Cherry Tree Hill boucle and some cool Ticker Tape ribbon yarn. What a fabulous way to end my vacation! Thanks to my secret pal who I still haven't figured out :)

Real Live Dogs...

what a concept! The dog show was a resounding success and I snuggled with many cute pooches and they used my sweaters as part of the packages to the winners. I have included some pictures. Warning! Cute dog alert! On another note, I had a fabulous birthday today. My wrestling friends took me out for dinner at Longhorns and then bowling. (I still suck at bowling, but I had a great time. I bowled at 58 the first game and a 51 the second.)

One of these days.....

I'll have a real live dog try on one of these sweaters. The dog show is only a couple of days away, so maybe I'll get lucky and have some of them model them for me before they are given away. Here's my Florida Gators sweater. I'm presently working on one for the Seminoles but I don't think I will be done by Saturday.

Yarny Goodness

I had a package waiting for me at the post office yesterday. I was so excited to see the new Tofutsie's Summer Daze special edition. I can't wait to use it!

Purple Dog

I finished another dog sweater. Unfortunately, still no dog to try it on. So without further interruptions, I present Furgie wearing the purple sweater. I've started working on some more masculine sweaters - one in Seminole colors, the other in Gators. My socks are going well too. I'm working on Move Your Fanny and I found a real neat pattern to do for my sister, just a little apprehensive because it's more complicated than I'm used to, but I do like to challenge myself.

July Socks

I finally finished my Carson Socks. I wanted to have them done in June, but it just didn't work out that way. My FIL was kind enough to model them for me until I can get them to Carson. I used Seacoast Royalty Colorway and the Garter Stitch Rib from Sensational Knitted Socks on Size 1 Knitpicks Circulars.

Blue Dog

Well, not actually a blue dog, but a blue dog sweater. I have been experiencing low energy levels and really haven't felt like doing anything but reading the last couple of weeks. However, I have managed to make a little dog sweater using some of the yarn I received from my Secret Pal 9 Swap on Knitty. I haven't been able to get a hold of a dog to model it yet, so my stuffed cat, Furgie will have to suffice. This yarn was a lot of fun. It is from Cherry Tree Hill. I am back on my regular knitting schedule and hope to finish my current pair of socks by the end of the weekend.

New Secret Pal Stash

I've had an extremely busy weekend but I did manage to get to the post office yesterday. Low and behold I received my first package from my SP 9 pal from Knitty. I love everything she sent. She send some really cool yarns from Cherry Tree Hill and the Great Andirondak Yarn Company. She knows me so well! I love doing scarves and ponchos in multitextures. Also received a cute sheep tape measure and the Yarn Harlot Book Knitting Rules as well as some handy dandy knitting accessories like a pocket guide, needle inventory card and some needle holders. Thanks so much to my pal!

Inching Along

I've managed to make a little progress on my Tangerine Twist after having to rip it all out last week. I had been over analyzing the pattern so I made some adjustments the first time around that weren't needed. Now the pattern is starting to look like it should.

The Mighty Ox, Indeed!

Last weekend the Mighty Ox made his wrestling debut as tag team partner to Michael Cade. It was a very memorable moment!

Harry Potter Secret Pal

Now that my pal, Megan knows about her gift, I can post a picture of the Harry Potter Sweater ornament I made her. It was a quick knit, and I'm thinking of doing a whole Harry Potter themed Christmas wreath for our auction this year.

Out of the starting gate

I finally managed to get my Tangerine Twist started. Now that the corrections have been made to the pattern, it will go pretty easily. I'm going to put another plug in for the Tangerine Twist KAL.

Cool, Beans!

I stopped by the post office today and I had two packages waiting for me. Whooo hooo! The first one was my Harry Potter Secret Pal package from my pal, Bean. Thanks so much, Bean! I'm surprised that the chocolate made it home for a picture (usually it doesn't). I also received my first Tofutsie's Sock of the Month from the Zandy's Yarn Shop in Minnesota. It's going to be hard for me not to start these socks yet, but I'll be a good girl and finish some of my other WIP's.

Tangerine Twist KAL

I've created a new KAL for the Tangerine Twist sweater from the Summer 2007 Knitty. You can click on the button to the right and it will take you directly to the blog if you would like to join in! I have my yarn for the project, now I just have to get one more size 4 circular needle.

SCW Socks Part II

Next in line for socks from the wrestling group is SCW president, Carson, shown above helping himself to my cookies. I'm using the same colorway as Ox's Sox - Royalty from Seacoast but this time I'm trying a variation of the K2P2 rib via Sensational Knitted Socks. I'm trying the Garter Stitch rib pattern and moving down to a size 1 needle. This sock should go relatively fast. At least I hope so, because these are my June socks for all my knitalongs.

A Tale of Two Socks

In Florida, you have Cindi. In Alabama, you have Emily How should these two separate socks meet? By being swap partners in the Hurricane Sock Party 2007. I received my package from Emily today so I can finally post my sock picture for her. Mine is the hot pink one, hers is the red. I love everything she sent me and can't wait for the hurricane (well, maybe not) so I can knit the other sock. Thanks so much, Emily!

Not a Sock - Part II

I've started working on my first lace shawl. (Well, actually I could probably say it's my second attempt at lace knitting.) I tried last year when I was still relatively inexperienced and it was a disaster. This time I picked a relatively simple pattern and I am using the laceweight that I got from a web site that shall remain nameless that has horrible customer service and very inaccurate dying methods. Needless to say, I usually hate the color yellow, but it's turning out okay. I still have to decide if I'm going to keep it. The color I ordered was supposed to be blue and gold like a Macaw, not lemon yellow and light blue.

Hurricane Season

Hurricane season is almost upon us and what did I do to get ready? I finished my sock and package for my Hurricane Sock Party partner. I'm not going to post a picture until she get's it. But I'm proud of myself for getting it done on time, considering I had to frog it once. I may take a little bit of a sock break and work on a quick garter stitch shawl.

I didn't get any knitting done this weekend.

Here's why:

A special thanks to Nikolai Volkoff and Larry Zbyzsko for being such good sports!
